I’m Moving!

Yes, yes, I’ve said many times I’m moving to Chicago but this time I’m referring to my blog!  I have a new blog now: The Urban Pasture !  It’s a little different but will still have tutorials, recipes, doodles, and other life bits.  I’m going to be focusing more on country living/diy living in a big city-I’m very excited about the new direction my blog is taking and I would love for you to come along for the ride!  Change any essential RSS feeds, google readers, etc.

I was playing around with Picnik today and I made this little card!  I’ve been thinking about doing digital collage style cards to add to my Etsy, what do you think of it?  I’m looking for some feedback!  Also, if you print photo cards/postcards, do you print them from home or do you get them from a printers?  I don’t have a nice printer so I’m looking for a good printer online until I can get a nicer printer for the house.  Who have you used before?  Just popping in to say hello and I hope everyone is having a good weekend!  Tucker and I are going to go to the Magic Bus Cafe in a little bit and I can’t wait for a veggie chili dog!  If you live in or near Minneapolis-I HIGHLY recommend you checking them out.  Cathy is an awesome lady and the dogs are ridiculously delicious!

She works hard for the money!

Indeed we all work hard for the money!  I’ve been busy, busy, busy lately getting ready to move and I’ve been working on a new project that I want to tell you about.  There is a new site called IndieMade.  I’ve been writing some articles for their resources section which is all about running your own crafty business.  There’s tons of great information and I’ve been writing about packaging, taxes, photographs, marketing, phew!  Lots n lots of great articles are there for your viewing pleasure!  IndieMade is a new company that wants to cater to those folks who love the ease of selling on Etsy but would like more control over their shop.  On IndieMade you get your own blog, news section, calendar to let your customers know where you’ll be, and a shopping cart.  There is a great range of customization of your shop and you have a gallery where you can upload pictures of other things you’re working on.  It’s a one stop shop for everything you without having to build a website yourself.  I would HIGHLY suggest checking the site out and take their tour.  We are currently in testing of the site so it’s not live yet, but soon!  Check back here for updates on the site and once it’s gone live you can sign up for a 30 day free trial to see if it’s something that would work for you!

Moving is coming up quick and I’m getting more nervous and anxious by the day…..I just have to keep repeating myself this mantra. It’s hard to take risks in life and I’m taking lots of them right now! Sorry if the blog is a little bare, things will get back to normal in no time!

Playing with Illustrator….and a freebie!

I’ve been having a lot of fun playing around with Illustrator lately.  I come back to it off and on to try and experiment with different styles and swatches and what sorts of things I can do to sell.  Anyhoo, I am a super novice at it since I’ve never taken a class so I thought that maybe it would be fun to give some of my experiments as free downloads!  I definitely don’t feel comfortable selling anything that I’ve produced but I don’t want them to just sit on my computer and not get any sort of feedback.  So, anytime I do something new or come up with something fun I’m going to offer it here!  Woohoo!  Here is the first download, I designed it to be a desktop wallpaper but if you can think of any other uses let me know!  Hope you enjoy it and I would love to hear any feedback, good or bad!  Hope everyone had a good holiday weekend!

Changes

I have been trying my best to work on and repeat this mantra to myself.  I don’t remember where I heard it, but ever since we decided to move from Minneapolis to Chicago I’ve been thinking this over and over again.  It’s a scary thing moving away from family and friends and out of your comfort zone.  Chicago is a big place and I’m a small town girl-it’s hard to imagine that we’ll be able to harmoniously mix.  I have a tendency to worry and dwell on what could happen.  I’ve always been a “what if” person and it’s hard to change that when it comes to such a big adjustment.  Every time I start to think about all the bad “what-ifs” I just try to remind and tell myself off all the good that can come from moving out of your comfort zone.  I think about all the opportunities in a big city like Chicago.  I think about all the new crafty friends I will meet and all the new experiences that Tucker and I will have together.  Sigh…Thanks for listening to this little rant of mine.  The time to move is coming up quick and I’m just trying to make it!  Do you remember when you had to go out of your comfort zone?  What helped you get through the hard times?
